THE VEIL OF WORDS
The exhibition will run from October 2 to November 5, 2024. The new series of works by the artist is based on the poem “Magnetic Fields” by the founders of French Surrealism, André Breton and Phillipe Soupault. Published in 1919 in the magazine Litterature, it was the first work written in the technique of automatic writing, one of the fundamental creative methods of the Surrealists. The task of automatic writing is to write at the dictation of the unconscious by shutting off the voice of reason, preventing the mind from making critical judgments.
Captives of Water Drops
Using this creative method in her artistic practice, Anka Akhalaya visualizes various spontaneous images, emotional states and feelings in abstract forms. Anka deliberately deprives compositions of semantic content, leaving a valence space for the viewer to construct his or her own interpretations. Thus, the viewer's experience of interaction with the artist's works is built on the possibility of establishing personalized connections between the work and the emotional response of the viewer.

The exhibition includes 15 paintings made in oil painting technique. Working mainly with abstraction, the artist prefers soft translucent color spots that form a special light and air environment of her works, as well as amorphous whimsical lines that chaotically dissect or swirl the compositional space.
